Students

Im dreadful at writing in this thing. So much to do..

Classes are as usual wonderful. The children continue to amaze me.

Seamus O'Toole shows extreme promise in the area of baking and decorating. He is what I call a natural. One of those rare people who needs not a reciepe to follow, he has the ability to judge weights, amounts and suprising appitude in substitutions or additions. I wonder if he knows this.

Jeremy Pritchett. An amazing little boy. While he doesnt care much for the written work, he does show an enthusiasm for learning beyond most I have met. I highly suspect many failed attempts from him. Not that he lacks in ability in the least. He is also a natural in a different type of way. He shows promise in inventing new dishes. Odd dishes perhaps, yet the kind that suprises you. Not afraid to veer away from the reciepe to give it a kick.

Moira Morwen, I wonder how long she has been cooking? Handles herself with confidence in the classroom. Knows exactly what not to do.. Intresting child. Quiet and calm. But a little tornado I suspect when it comes to perfection in cooking.

Sweet Molly. Her knitting is perfection. Another quiet one, but one who still has that burning desire. She will go far.

Izzy-Life saver.

This week should prove both knowledgable and fun. A mess at the least. Allowing each to make one dish..only catch, they must make it with what ever the other students choose from a list for them. Need to check over the budgets with each privatly while the remaining students work at their desks. I still need to discuss a possible project with the Headmaster. Im uncertain if he would allow the students in the kitchen to discuss with the house elves the need for cost control and determining the best buy for their knut. Watch and learn from the professionals who truely know how to feed an army. An army of starving picky kids. No greater critic than a picky child.

Updated Syllubus

Third year: Students are introduced to basic cleaning charms. They are also taught how to magically cook a few basic recipes using real ingredients, set tables for company and keep a house looking tidy. In addition to making decorative crafts, students will sew simple projects (sleeping robes, pillows, etc.) using enchanted equipment and charms.

Fourth year: Intermediate cleaning charms are taught (for those really stubborn stains) and students are shown how to concoct basic cleaning potions. Cooking classes continue, with more complicated recipes but real ingredients. There are more decorative crafts and more sewing projects. The students are also introduced to fashion design.

Fifth year: Interior decorating is introduced, and fashion design is continued. Students are taught to sew and modify their own clothing based on their designs. Cooking classes now include the conjuration of simple foods to accent and enhance a meal.

For the OWLs: Students will be quizzed on their knowledge of cooking and sewing terms, guidelines for decoration and mixes for polish and stain-removers. Practicals will include the preparation of a three-course meal and one simple garment.

Sixth year: Transfiguration of ingredients is now introduced. (For instance, turning a potato into a parsnip) Cooking classes teach more advanced techniques to make a fanciful dish as well as creating meals that are considered to be ethnic or exotic. Sewing classes continue, focusing on more ornate garments for special occasions. Child and infant care is also introduced.

Seventh year: Child and infant care is continued. Cooking classes focus on the preparation of gourmet meals in a flash, using any available ingredients in the house. Sewing classes continue to teach the preparation of garments for special occasions, including weddings, dances and costumes for masquerades.

For the NEWTs: Students are quizzed through written exams on their knowledge of child care, cleaning potions, interior and fashion design and common terms. Through practicals, they must demonstrate their knowledge of crafts, sewing and the preparation of a five-course meal.

H&H Project

Well...it seems were going to round out the year by starting now.. A project to run the rest of the year and culminate in a fab blow out of a formal dance.. Some are tossing around the idea of a small carnival to earn funds for our poor budget to make the dance a bit more special. Just simple things, hand made crafts, foods, games of chance, face painting and what not.  The H&H students will chose the type of activity and theme, then decide who heads up which committee. Aside from that the project will be open to anyone who wishes to lend a hand   All they need to do is let one of the H&H students know what they want to help with.

It should be quite the challenge if they chose to do the carnival..have to budget properly with the limited funds in order to make more. Just the type of budgeting one must learn to keep a home.  The dance itself should be interesting. I wonder if they realize just how much work the staff has to put into making a dance be successful. From the music and food, to decorations, it will all have to be done with the budget given and in the proper amount of time.

Thoughts

I certainly do not pay as much attention to this journal as I should. What with kids coming by all the time to work on this or that, most of which I might add, do NOT take my class and seem to fear their friends knowing they cook or sew more than do a DE. Truley an odd situation.

So Hogwarts? Whats there to really say. I spend my time either in the class room or alone. The staff while nice enough I suppose, seem to think of me in a manner most do. Pretty to look at it, but nothing upstairs. No wonder the students for the most part seem to think I cant fight my way out of wet paper bag.
